This is a pelvic floor workshop for everyone.
You may have heard about the pelvic floor. Like JD Salinger, it gets a lot of accolades but is generally reclusive. One of the classic "body locks" of Hatha yoga, the pelvic floor is a network of muscles that has the power to inform every yoga pose, promote continence, aid childbirth, improve sex, and help any body age gracefully -- a pretty spectacular list.
-But which muscles do make up the pelvic floor?
-How do I know if they're working?
-What is a "body lock" and what does that have to do with it?
-Can I really work on my pelvic floor in public?
The answer to the last question is: yes! This is a muscle group like any other, just one surrounded by a lot of hype and mystery. So let's answer those other questions -- and demystify -- together.
Suitable for yogis and non-yogis, men and women, this two-hour workshop will use anatomical information to shine a light (figuratively) on the muscles of the pelvic floor. We'll talk about the role they play in yoga poses and everyday movement. We'll try some some visualization exercises and classic Kegels to tune into our own beautiful pelvic floor muscle group, and then we'll put them to use in a variety of yoga poses, learning to strengthen and stretch the muscles for optimum efficiency. Finally, we'll see if we can discover for ourselves why the ancient yogis thought this "root lock" was so very special.

Join a community of moms-to-be in this strength-building, soul-soothing practice. Using gentle movement and lots of breath, we'll address areas of tension, work out those weird, pregnancy-related kinks in your body, strengthen the legs and pelvic floor to help you carry that baby, and open the heart and chest, allowing you to breath deeper and easier. Movement repetition and restorative poses will lull the mind into a calmer state so you can leave each class feeling ready to take on the world.
Beneficial at any stage of pregnancy. No experience required. Drop-ins welcome, or commit to all four classes and be super glad you did.
Prenatal Yoga Series

Create a community and practice with other Moms to be. In our classes we teach yoga poses specific to making you more comfortable in your pregnancy—strengthening muscles for better posture, flexibility and a stronger body, as well as stretching muscles to relieve aches, and release tension. These classes will also help to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles to facilitate labor, improve circulation, aid in digestion, and exercise the spine. The resulting body awareness will help you feel more connected and in tune with you ever-changing body. Through the poses, breath-work, and relaxation techniques you will feel more confident in your body and mind to handle the challenges of labor and delivery. Regular attendance assures that you will consistently practice these exercises for greater benefits, as well as build a community of support through meeting and connecting with other mothers-to-be.
